Introduction of Women’s Premier League

The much-awaited Women’s Premier League 2023 is about to start on March 4. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will organize the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in 2023. The first match of WPL 2023 will be played between Mumbai Indians vs Gujrat Giants at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

A total number of 5 teams will participate in the tournament which are Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriors. The TATA Group will be the women’s IPL’s official sponsor, as per BCCI. Every cricket fans are very much excited about the historic WPL 2023 tournament.

WPL 2023 Full Schedule :

Three of the five competing teams appear to be making the playoffs as per the WPL 2023 schedule. The table-topper team will directly enter the final and second and third-place teams will play the eliminator. The 22-match league will have five off days, the first on March 17 and the second on March 19, and the next two off days are after the league stage is complete on 22 March and 23 March.

the Eliminator takes place on March 24 at CCI stadium, and the final takes place on March 26 at DY Patil Stadium after the fifth off day on 25 March. The entire WPL 2023 will be played at Mumbai’s CCI and DY Patil Stadium.

Women’s Premier League 2023 format :

The Round Robin format will follow the WPL 2023 in the group stage and playoffs format.

  • All 5 teams will play against each other twice.
  • The topper of the points table will directly qualify for the final.
  • The 2nd & 3rd teams of the points table will play the eliminator match.
  • The winner of the eliminator match will qualify for the final as the second finalist team.

Women’s Premier League 2023 rules :

Team combination always plays a huge role in a team’s strength. During the auction, each team also acquires backup players.

  • There is a maximum squad size of 18 players for each team allowed.
  • The team can’t have more than 6 overseas in their squad.
  • Maximum 5 overseas players allowed by a team The fifth could be from an Associate Member nation, and four of them could be from Full Member nations.

WPL 2023 Broadcasting Channels :

For an amount of INR 951 crore, Viacom 18 had obtained the global media rights for the inaugural women’s Premier League’s television and digital broadcast under a five-year contract that would begin in 2023. The Women’s Premier League 2023 can be watched live on the JioCinema app and website because Sports 18 Network owns the rights to broadcast the event. The Women’s Premier League 2023 television rights in India have been acquired by the Sport18 Network, and all of the games will be broadcast on their channel.

The Jio Cinema app will be available for free to Jio customers, allowing them to watch the WPL auction live on their smartphones and laptops.

    Prize Money Of WPL 2023 :

    The Women’s Premier League’s inaugural season will award Rs 10 Crore in prize money. The Women’s Indian Premier League has a salary cap of Rs. 12 Crore set by the BCCI. Every year, this amount will rise by 1.5 Crore.
