The European Cricket League (ECL) is a T10 cricket competition between European nations’ cricket clubs. It was established with the intention of expanding cricket’s popularity throughout Europe. In the year of 2018, the league was founded. The first edition of the tournament started in 2019. Currently, there are 31 teams playing in the tournament.

History of the European Cricket League T10:

Daniel Weston established the league in 2018 with eight official ICC member federations, including Germany, Russia, Netherlands, France, Italy, Denmark, and Romania. The first season of the tournament was held in 2019. 8 teams participated in the edition of 2019 (Belgian, English, Finnish, Irish, Norwegian, Romanian, Scottish, and Swedish National Champions). At the La Manga club in Spain, the 2020 edition was scheduled with 16 teams to play. But due to Covid 19 pandemic in Spain, the 2020 edition was unfortunately cancelled.

Again at the La Manga Club, the 2021 edition was scheduled to be held. Due to the covid 19 pandemic, it was again cancelled and the fans became disappointed for 2 consecutive years.

The ECL22 tournament saw a significant expansion, with champions from 963 different club teams invited to participate, in addition to VOC Rotterdam, the previous champion. Bet2Ball was named the title sponsor, and the cryptocurrency Kiba Inu was named the sponsor of the jerseys for all 30 teams.

The final match of the 2019 season was played between VOC Rotterdam and SG Findorff. Voc Rotterdam batted first and they scored a massive total of 222 runs in 10 overs. SG Findorff managed to score only 121/9 in 10 overs. Voc Rotterdam won the match by a huge margin of 101 runs. Scott Edwards was the highest scorer of the season scoring 233 runs.
Syed Siiwiherazi took 9 wickets in the season and he was the highest wicket-taker of the season in 2019.

European Cricket League T10 2022 (4th Season)

The final match of the 2022 season was played between Pak I Care Badalona and Tunbridge Wells. Tunbridge Wells batted first and they managed to score 81/7 in 10 overs. Pak I Care Badalona chased the target quite comfortably in only 9 overs and won the match by 7 wickets (6 balls remaining). Chris Williams was the highest scorer of the season scoring 477 runs. Muhammad Babar took 23 wickets in the season and he was the highest wicket-taker of the season 2022.

The final match of the 2023 season was played between Dreux and Hornchurch CC. Dreux was batted first and they scored a big total of 131/5 in 10 overs. Hornchurch CC failed to chase the target. They only managed to get 69/8 in 10 overs. Druex won the match by a big margin of 62 runs and won the title of the 2023 season. The highest scorer of the season 2023 was Jason Van Der Merwe. He scored a huge total of 641 runs. Tabish Bhatti was the highest wicket-taker of the season and he took 27 wickets.

Board of European Cricket League

Frank Leenders and Thomas Klooz, fellow ECL board members, worked in the UEFA Champions League’s marketing department. In 1992 Klooz and Leenders both joined TEAM Marketing and they assumed huge parts in the rebranding of the UEFA Champions Association during its early stages. Kloooz became CEO of TEAM and Leenders became managing director. Both of them were members of the board of directors.
